If a private school acting as a nonprofit closes, can parents get tuition refunds?

So this is a private school under the auspices of a nonprofit. They lost a good number of students due to the economy, but parents had to cough up the full year tuition. Can they expect partial or full refunds? If the nonprofit was not running in a fiscally conscientious manner, isn't the Board of Directors responsible?
