Career in journalism/PR/nonprofits?

I am pursuing a degree in journalism and public relations, and I would love to work for a nonprofit organization. Pursuing both is not necessarily an option because, as a journalist, I need to remain objective. I'm not sure how I feel about being a PR specialist, but it's definitely an option. Any sugestions?
